![]() ![]() Hades attacked Mount Olympus with the Titans and succeeded in overthrowing Zeus without Hercules to stop him. Hercules agreed, as long as Meg wouldn't be hurt. He asked Hercules to give up his strength for 24 hours (when he was set to overtake Mount Olympus) in exchange for Meg's freedom. When he found out that Hercules had fallen in love with Meg, he took this to his advantage and made a deal with Hercules. Meg was stuck doing tasks for Hades.Īfter discovering that Hercules was still alive (Pain and Panic having kept the incident involving the bottle secret for years), Hades sent numerous monsters to do away with Hercules, such as the Hydra, the Minotaur, the Nemean Lion, and others, but none worked. He did, but soon Meg's lover left her for another girl (in the series it is said that her lover was Adonis). Later, a young woman named Megara, or Meg, sold her soul to Hades so that he would rescue her lover. Thus, Hercules became a mortal but retained his God like strength, and spent his entire life on Earth. If it not for a human couple coming along and causing the demons to drop and break the bottle and losing the last drop. Hercules needed to drink every drop for it to work and it almost did. ![]() Hades sent his two demons, Pain and Panic, to kidnap baby Hercules and give him a potion that would render him mortal. Hades answers the titans to destroy Zeus. If Zeus's son, his nephew, Hercules was to fight Hades, Hercules would win. Upon receiving a visit from the Fates, he learned that he could succeed, but there was a catch. In the 1997 animated film, Hades sought to overthrow his older brother Zeus and rule Mount Olympus for himself. He ranked #8 in the top 30 Disney villains (One better than Lady Tremaine but under Captain Hook.) In all of his appearances, he was voiced by James Woods. Hades later reappeared in Hercules: The Animated Series and the Kingdom Hearts series. The exception of this is Zeus who basically treats him as a little brother. Apparently the rest of the Olympian gods don't care for Hades given the glares they give him when he comes to view Hercules for the first time. At one point it is also shown to be possible to blow his hair out, leaving him bald. His hair-flame has also been shown to flare when he grows particularly excited (as demonstrated when the Fates tell him he will overthrow Zeus), although in this case it remains blue. His hair is blue fire which flares up and turns red whenever he is angry or upset. The character's mannerisms in the final product were due to James Woods use of a "car-dealer"-style voice while the movie was being made. Unlike the Hades from the original Greek myth (who is fine with his job but still on the lower side when it comes to power), this version is a fast-talking evil deity reminiscent of Satan with somewhat of an obsession with overthrowing the gods and ruling Olympus. Hades is based on the Greek god of the same name. James Woods Hades is the main antagonist in the 1997 Disney animated film Hercules. ![]()

![]() Well, that and the fact that “everybody loves caramel.”īuilding off Hannah’s creation, the Research and Development team continues to innovate around the Macchiato-staying true to the drink’s meaning but experimenting with flavor. Hannah credits the success of the Caramel Macchiato to her dedicated team. “I never thought, honestly, none of us ever thought that it would become such a huge hit,” Hannah said. ![]() But it proved to be far more popular than her team could have imagined and has become a menu staple. The initial plan was to offer the Caramel Macchiato for just a few weeks. “When I got a sign-off on, you would not believe how happy I was,” Hannah said. They tried out more than 30 different iterations. She and a handful of fellow partners spent around 10 months working on the beverage, from the first concept to the finished product. Not only did she need to perfect the taste, she also had to make sure the caramel stayed on top of the foam-which proved to be the most challenging part. ![]() The first step? “Coming up with a silky, velvety caramel sauce,” Hannah said. Hannah Su, a 21-year partner (employee) who developed the iconic drink, said they wanted to create something special to mark Starbucks 25th anniversary. The Caramel Macchiato debuted in the fall of 1996, back when Starbucks had around 1,000 stores. (An Almondmilk Latte Macchiato is my current go-to drink.) The espresso creates a small chestnut-colored circle in the center of the crisp, white microfoam. Instead of topping the drink with foam, our baristas start with steamed whole milk, and then slowly pour espresso shots over it. ![]() This is essentially the inverse of an Espresso Macchiato. The bold, rich drink-sometimes referred to simply as a Macchiato within the coffee industry-comes in two sizes: A solo contains one shot of espresso and a doppio has two. In its purest form, an Espresso Macchiato begins with our espresso it’s then marked with a dollop of foam. Did you know Macchiato means “marked” in Italian? This idea of marking a beverage, like with a dot of espresso or a caramel design, has inspired Starbucks to create some delicious drinks. Consider the following the results of my espresso-fueled research. The Macchiato-its history and evolution-has been my latest obsession. One of the things I love most about coffee is discovering the stories behind it. ![]() ![]() The most popular advice topics - we've got you covered Charging times explained Advice How to check and inflate your tyres Haynes How-To: change a car battery Haynes How-To: change an engine's air filter › More here.Įxpert advice on finding the right car Best supercars to buy 2023 Best hot hatchbacks of 2023 Best executive cars to buy › More here. Ever since then I have been exploring how that series affected what I do in my studio through making my own sculptural objects combined with works on paper as well as taking objects from the street to incorporate into finished works. They became about how these found objects already had a very visible history as furniture which, combined with my paintings expounded on the meaning of both. The pieces seemed to become many things: they were performance, painting, sculptural, installation, ephemeral and public art. I was so curious to continue the project to see what meaning I could uncover. This series was very impactful to my practice and changed how I made work going forward. I would then take photos and videos of the piece and leave it where I found it for its ultimate delivery to the landfill. I would spot something on the sidewalk or in an alleyway like a broken refrigerator, couch or mattress and return the following morning to make a painting on it. These were paintings I was making out on the streets of Los Angeles directly onto discarded furniture. After making many paintings and drawings of this subject matter, in 2019 I began what I called Confine In Situ. As I mentioned earlier, the Confine Series is what I’ve been developing over the past several years. This also coincided with the conclusion of “PORTALS” at Angels Gate Cultural Center which meant I was overseeing the deinstallation of the exhibition whilst moving my studio – no small feat!Ĭan you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?Īs an artist, I am primarily a painter. This displaced hundreds of artists, myself included, and we were all forced to find new places to store our artwork and new studio spaces. Another huge challenge came when the Hawthorne Arts Complex, which was home to many artists, closed in March of 2022. I had to be more considerate of the demands on my body and be very cognizant of my posture while painting as well as know when to take breaks. My art practice became much more physically demanding as I was creating much larger works which became a huge challenge. Particularly with creative endeavors, the path is not very clear and one typically has to trust the path forward. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?Īh, there are always struggles! This is part of the journey, though. I’ve also been developing my practice as a curator working on various exhibitions with my artist collectives Somewhere in LA (SILA) and Acceptable Risk LA (ARLA) as well as earlier this year a major solo curatorial project at Angels Gate Cultural Center entitled “PORTALS”.Ĭan you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. This series started out as paintings on panels or canvas and has expanded into a more sculptural realm which has proven to be quite compelling. Artistically, I have been working through what has become a large series of works I call the Confine Series which are defined by imagery of soft, flesh-like materials bound within a rigid structure like a basket. I’ve always loved the city for a variety of reasons, I love the urban decay and beauty of it and the huge and diverse community of artists that live and work here. My art practice and my curatorial practice both tend to be rather nomadic and dependent on place so in that sense I am very tied to Los Angeles. My journey through it all has been quite an adventure and I’ve grown quite a lot in those various realms. I have been working as an artist, curator and arts administrator in Los Angeles for many years now since completing my degree in Fine Art from Cal State Long Beach. Overall, the authentic Air Jordan writing would be thick, yet the left stroke of the letter “A” would be thin. This means that the fakes could have some random gaps, as pointed out in the comparison of the bottom parts. The dividing lines would have a much more consistent thickness, compared to the one in the fakes. This means that its natural rhythms are not found naturally from syllable to syllable, but rather from one accent to the next. ![]() English, being of Germanic origin, is a predominantly accentual language. Of the ways of looking at meter, the most common in English are those that are accentual. Quantitative: Measures the duration of words.Accentual-syllabic: A counting of syllables and accents. ![]() Accentual: A counting of accents only per line.Syllabic: A general counting of syllables per line.Fussell defines meter as "what results when the natural rhythmical movements of colloquial speech are heightened, organized, and regulated so that emerges from the relative phonetic haphazard of ordinary utterance." (4-5) To "meter" something, then, is to "measure" it (the word meter itself is derived from the Greek for measure), and there are four common ways to view meter. Although some of Fussell's ideas are a bit outdated (namely, he doesn't deal with the visual elements of a poem), his approach is complete, concise and useful. The bible of most poets today regarding meter and sound is a book by Paul Fussell called Poetic Meter and Poetic Form. The crafting of the aural aspects of a poem is what we may call "ear training." Thus, the crafting of the visual aspects is what we'd call "eye training." Meter Writing Letters of Recommendation for StudentsĪ brief exploration of the various aspects of sound that can be utilized when making a poem. ![]() ![]() ![]() That isn't even to mention that, though they were reunited again in Supernatural's 300th episode "Lebanon," John and Mary started a new life post-series with one another in Heaven. The timeline is incredibly hard to change (and even if you do, the consequences are monumental), and at the end of the day, those experiences made John and Mary, and by extension Sam and Dean, who they were. In previous seasons, Dean traveled back in time Back to the Future-style to try and stop his parents (played then by Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick) from making the same mistakes, but to no avail. But, even though Sam and Dean did beat Chuck before the final curtain closed, they couldn't reverse the negative effect he had on their lives, including on their parents. "You're my favorite show," Chuck eventually told Sam and Dean in the Season 14 finale "Moriah," shaking the entire fandom to their core. The "God" of the Supernatural-verse, Chuck Shurley ( Red Benedict), eventually made it known that he had been pulling the Winchester strings since long before they were born. ![]() This revelation always stuck with Dean, who believed that his entire life was orchestrated. ![]() In the Supernatural episode "My Bloody Valentine," a Cupid reveals that John and Mary Winchester (played primarily by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith in the original series) were set up based on a heavenly decree, making theirs an arranged marriage of sorts. (No, seriously, he dies hundreds of times in the Season 3 episode "Mystery Spot" alone.) Thus, Dean taking a "detour through the multiverse" in the middle of his infamous Heaven tour (time up there is iffy anyway) made loads of sense and gave him one last shot at changing what he had always hoped he could: his parent's destiny. Not exactly the most notable death, and certainly not his most iconic given that Dean died countless times throughout the series chronology. Rather than some macho-heroic death or some world-ending mission (he'd been on plenty of those before, and even died in a few), Dean was impaled while fighting a masked vampire. But by the finale, "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye," that security blanket is ripped right out from under us, and Dean reveals a strange truth that only the diehards might've guessed: this isn't Dean's home universe, and this John and Mary aren't his parents.Īfter years of sacrificing himself for his family, it felt sort of anticlimactic when Dean died by accident in the field. A bit that could have easily come off as unnecessarily tacky, Dean's narration lulls us into a false sense of security, getting us to believe that this is our familiar Supernatural world, one where we know how everything's supposed to play out. While Dean himself was only seen in the first and last episodes, he can be heard throughout all 13 as he narrates this John and Mary's story from afar. More than that, it was a thoughtful epilogue to Dean's fairweather Supernatural send-off. Regardless of whether the spin-off earns itself a sophomore year (the jury's still out) the first and potentially only season of The Winchesters was a decent ride on its own. "From then on, I was onboard." While fans continued to struggle with the end of Dean's story in "Carry On," currently the third lowest-ranked episode of the series according to IMDb, the Winchester saga has continued. However, he soon explained how he came around to the idea, but only after discussing it further with Kripke himself, who thought it was the "perfect" ending for Sam and Dean. ![]() "My initial reaction was, 'I don't like it,'" Ackles told Rosenbaum. Jensen Ackles himself expressed clear disappointment when talking with his former Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum on the Inside of You podcast, explaining that he spent time both liking and disliking the ending chosen for the long-running series. While series creator Eric Kripke gave the series finale his blessing (he had already written his own ending in Season 5's "Swan Song," which is to this day the series' highest-rated episode), not everyone involved loved the idea. Thankfully, Bobby Singer ( Jim Beaver) was still there to usher the elder Winchester through the pearly gates. They had intended an enormous Supernatural reunion in the end, but, like many of us, their plans were dashed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Admittedly, this wasn't entirely the showrunners' fault. ![]() |
